Massage Modalities: Shiatsu

Shiatsu Male Therapist Female ClientShiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork with its roots in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). It is believed to improve a client’s health, not just physically, but also spiritually and emotionally. At ASIS Massage Education you will learn about Shiatsu in both theory and practice.
Your instructors will address the theories of chi (life energy), the elements, and the meridians, among other topics of Eastern medicine, to provide you with a foundation of understanding with which to approach the practice of Shiatsu.
You will also learn about Shiatsu techniques such as using your fingers to apply pressure to acupressure points (trigger points) along the meridians and how to use touch to adjust a client’s chi.
There are a few different styles of Shiatsu practiced today, some which concentrate on the flow of energy and others that focus primarily on acupressure points, but all are based on TCM.
Shiatsu can be extremely relaxing and regular treatments can promote health by influencing and improving the state of energy in the body.
After graduation, you can specialize in Shiatsu by taking CE (Continuing Education) courses if you feel an affinity with this particular modality.
