Massage for Injury Rehab: Head and Neck Flagstaff-September 2024
This class teaches a deeper understanding of the head and neck. There is an emphasis on reviewing pertinent muscles, anatomy, and structures to better understand the dysfunctions. Students will learn indications and contraindications for using massage techniques to treat conditions of the head and cervical spine such as TMJ disorder and whiplash. Lots of hands-on demonstration and practice of neuromuscular and Myofascial techniques for soft tissue injury and recovery of the head and neck.
Instructor Bio: A Licensed massage therapist and instructor since 1993, Mario has worked with an array of clientele encountering many true to life situations. It is many of these antidotes that Mario shares with class participants to balance and validate the theoretical terms and concepts. Humor, class participation and inspiration are important components of classes taught by Mario. As a Massage Therapist, Mario worked with the University of Iowa college athletes. Sports included: Football under coach Hayden Fry, Wrestling under coach Dan Gable, Jim Zalesky and Tom Brands, Men’s and Women’s track under coach Larry Wieczorek and Layne Anderson respectively.Throughout his teaching career Mario has taught classes in: Anatomy/Physiology and Pathology, Sports Massage, Neuromuscular massage and Postural Analysis

In this class, we will build on participants’ kinesiology knowledge to explore how understanding how our muscles move can enhance our treatment planning and massage sessions. We will review joint movements, muscle attachments, and movements and strategies to palpate these muscles efficiently. We will use these tools to explore how we can incorporate this knowledge into treatment planning, providing our clients an effective massage session. This course is a series of 6, 3-hour classes broken down into different regions of the body. Participants may choose any number of classes in the series to attend in any order.
