Yoga for Depression Mesa-December 2023
We will begin with a psychoeducational presentation of what depression is and the difference
between sadness and clinical depression.
We will continue with a discussion that focuses on the reduction of tamas and cultivation of
sattva which are considered part of up-regulating practices and useful when experiencing under-
arousal. A 15-minute yoga sequence will be presented and practiced in a yoga class format.

Gloria C. Mathiesen, MA, LPC, LMT graduated in 1997 from Irene Gauthier’s Myomassology Institute located in her home state of Michigan. She has been providing therapeutic massage services ever since. She is also a licensed professional counselor specializing in trauma for the states of Arizona and Ohio. She’s been an approved provider of continuing education for NCBTMB since 2010. Gloria has been providing continuing education for multiple states, coast to coast, along with reaching international students virtually via Zoom. Her passion focuses her development on bridging the mind and body with unique courses and public workshops addressing topics such as PTSD, eating disorders, addiction, chronic pain, and trauma. Lastly, she is also a certified yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance and offers trauma-informed yoga classes, workshops, and trainings for the general public as well as continuing education for yoga instructors and massage therapists.
