Shoulder Dysfunction and Massage

This course will focus on the rotator cuff muscle and muscle of the scapula. Basic muscle attachments and actions including functional anatomy, massage for each muscle, and stretching. Students will identify muscles of the rotator cuff (S.I.T.S muscles) and the major muscles of the scapula including Teres Major, Rhomboids Major and Minor, Trapezius (upper middle and lower) Latissimus Dorsi, Pectoralis Major and Minor, Biceps Brachii. A lecture about functional movement of the Glenohumeral joint and common dysfunctions will start the class. 

Students will repeat all hands-on portions of this class based on the demonstration of each muscle including stretching, and Applied Kinesiology/ Muscle testing. The students will demonstrate their proficiency of the work which includes massage and stretching of the muscles, students will demonstrate this work under my supervision and the supervision of any teacher's assistants.

 

Instructor Bio:  A Licensed massage therapist and instructor since 1993, Mario has worked with an array of clientele encountering many true to life situations. It is many of these antidotes that Mario shares with class participants to balance and validate the theoretical terms and concepts.  Humor, class participation and inspiration are important components of classes taught by Mario. As a Massage Therapist, Mario worked with the University of Iowa college athletes. Sports included: Football under coach Hayden Fry, Wrestling under coach Dan Gable, Jim Zalesky and Tom Brands, Men’s and Women’s track under coach Larry Wieczorek and Layne Anderson respectively.Throughout his teaching career Mario has taught classes in: Anatomy/Physiology and Pathology, Sports Massage, Neuromuscular massage and Postural Analysis

This will include and discuss the techniques, contraindications, risk factors, and protocols related to these surgeries.

  • Elevating assessment skills using kinesiology and palpation: Trunk muscles 3 CEs - Mesa

    October 14th 2022, 9am-12pm

    Kinesiology is the study of the mechanics of movement. In this class, we will build on participants’ kinesiology knowledge to explore how understanding how our muscles move can enhance our treatment planning and massage sessions. We will review joint movements, muscle attachments, and movements and strategies to palpate these muscles efficiently. We will use these tools to explore how we can incorporate this knowledge into treatment planning, providing our clients an effective massage session. This course is a series of 6, 3-hour classes broken down into different regions of the body. Participants may choose any number of classes in the series to attend in any order.  3CE's

  • Hot Stones - Flagstaff

    October 21st 2022, 8am to 4pm

    Learn the basics of hot stones. Students will learn how to set up, apply treatment and properly clean and sanitize stones. Students will be able to perform a full 60 minute hands-on hot stone session. 

  • Elevating assessment skills using kinesiology and palpation: Shoulder muscles 3 CEs - Mesa

    October 22nd 2022, 9am-12pm

    Kinesiology is the study of the mechanics of movement. In this class, we will build on participants’ kinesiology knowledge to explore how understanding how our muscles move can enhance our treatment planning and massage sessions. We will review joint movements, muscle attachments, and movements and strategies to palpate these muscles efficiently. We will use these tools to explore how we can incorporate this knowledge into treatment planning, providing our clients an effective massage session. This course is a series of 6, 3-hour classes broken down into different regions of the body. Participants may choose any number of classes in the series to attend in any order.  3CE's

    Learn how to incorporate marble cold stones in your practice! Cold stones can be used to help reduce pain and inflammation and reinvigorate the body.
