SUMMARY:Skin Cancer Basics for Massage Therapists
DESCRIPTION:This course supports massage therapists as part of the wholistic healthcare team to identify changes in their client's skin in order to encourage clients to get a skin check from their PCP or dermatologist.\nSkin cancers are among the leading cancers affecting Americans today. Skin cancer can be very serious\, even deadly. As a massage therapist you are poised to play a vital role in the early detection of skin changes in your clients which could lead to early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. This could be lifesaving!\n\nThis course covers basic information about skin cancer\, including how to recognize changes in your client's skin which may be linked to skin cancers such as melanoma and skin cancer prevention. Also includes recommendations for how to talk to a client about skin changes and suggesting they see their primary care provider or dermatologist for a skin check without alarming them. You will leave this course armed with information and skills that could significantly improve the lives of your clients and enhance your role in their wellness team.\n\nMichelle's path to holistic medicine started at the age of 8 as she began reading and learning about natural medicine inspired by living across the street from Bastyr University. As a graduate of the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts massage program in 2001\, Michelle has continued her education through earning a BA in holistic health\, a Masters in Acupuncture and a Masters in Public Health. She is currently working on a graduate degree to become a Physician Assistant to further expand her reach as an integrative medicine provider. Her treatment philosophy and teaching philosophy are one in the same\, to help each person she works with to meet their individual goals in a safe\, supportive environment. Michelle has also been a massage educator since 2002 both as a faculty member of massage programs and as a continuing education provider which has given her the chance to work with massage therapists around the world.\n\nCEU: 4\nCost: $70\nEarly Registration: $55 if you register 30 days in advance.
